About
A collaborative effort to expose the truth about the troubled teen industry through storytelling, research, and advocacy.
Subject & Co-Creator
Geoffrey “Gow” Folkerth is the narrator and subject of Escape from Provo Canyon, a deeply personal account of his experience in the troubled teen industry. As a teenager in the 1980s, Gow found himself caught between the freedom of youth and the harsh reality of institutional control.
A self-described “teenage wildlife,” Gow’s story begins with the vibrant energy of skate ramps and backyard parties, only to take a dark turn when a single confession to a therapist leads to his confinement at Provo Canyon School. His raw, unflinching narrative explores themes of survival, identity, and the long journey toward healing and understanding.
Today, Gow shares his story not just as a personal catharsis, but as a voice for countless others who experienced similar trauma. Through this podcast, he hopes to shed light on the troubled teen industry and contribute to systemic change that protects vulnerable youth.
